A few of us popped over to see Andy Rimmer from the Youth Hostel Association. He is an old friend and one of the founder members of the Fit for the Future network. The National Trust in Wales are currently looking for a user friendly monitoring system for the new generation sites and also consumption sites and are evaluating a few systems.  I saw the YHA’s online monitoring system a few weeks ago and Andy agreed to let us have a deeper look with the people who manage the system for them. Simple, deep and above all elegant. But the main lessons of the last few meetings with developers is “be clear what you want the system to do?” Asking for all the bells and whistle and not using them is a complete waste of money.  I was also there to talk thermal imaging cameras and the YHA are now borrowing the NT’s to highlight opportunities for energy investment. We finished with a cathartic sharing session on the joint woe’s of RHI registration and how dark the days can seem before you are able to claim. This sharing thing might catch on one day?

PS YHA coffee is superb… good day!

The simple clever side of the YHA energy monitoring system. Red = bad. Green = Good. Simples!
